San Jose, CA to Panama Motorcycle Trip

Here are photos from our trip through the area I'll call Central Mexico

Day 10

In Mazatlan at last!  The view from our room.

Lunch on the patio overlooking the beach.

The beach in front of our hotel.

A Mazatlan sunset.

Day 11

We stopped for gas, and saw a black Gold Wing (from Guatemala).  A few minutes later, we were both joined
by a group of local riders!

A "biker photo".  The Gold Wing is owned by the man standing next to David.

The view from our hotel room in Tepic, a lovely colonial town.

Our best meal of the first part of the trip was in Tepic, at a restaurant called Emiliano's
(named after Emiliano Zapata).  Richard with a very good Tequila and a sangrita chaser.

Day 12

A blue agave field in Jalisco (on the road to Tequila).

A local bus in the town of Tequila, where we spent New Year's eve.

Richard and the bikes in front of the original Cuervo distillery.  Our hotel is just to the left.

Day 13

Richard sampling tequilas at the Cuervo distillery on New Year's day.

Posing with the Cuervo gang.

A square in the historic center of Guadalajara, a lovely city.

The Cathedral near our hotel in Guadalajara.  Mark went to Sunday mass here.

Richard gets to sing with the Mariachis on his last evening of the trip.

Mark, David, and Richard.  Richard is headed home, and Mark is starting
his part of the trip.

Day 14

At Lake Chapala, Mexico's largest lake.

A view of the lake.

Overlooking the lake and a small town below from a cobbled mountain road.

Dinner in Pénjamo at a streetside taco stand.  Great tacos!

Day 15

Mark's breakfast in Pénjamo, fried fish and octopus soup.  This is not a town of traditional restaurants.

Our lunch stop on the road to Pachuca.  The person in the background is grilling chicken.

We had a very nice lunch of soup and chicken (the only thing on the menu).

The road to Pechuca.  We are in the high plains north of Mexico City.

Day 16

Everywhere we went in Central Mexico, the 3 Wise Men kept showing up.

Beyond these volcanos is Mexico City, which we avoided.

Lunch on the road, on the way to Veracruz.

A band playing on the Zócalo in the evening in Veracruz.
