San Jose, CA to Panama Motorcycle Trip

Here are photos from our trip through Honduras

Day 26

The border crossing from Guatemala to Honduras.  (The person in the foreground is a Canadian
traveling by motorcycle.)

View of the square in Copán Ruinas (a very nice town) from our hotel.

Mark with some of the local wildlife (scarlet macaws) at the Copán ruins.

A view of the ruins.  This is the last of our Mayan ruins, as it is the southernmost large Mayan city.

While not a big as Tikal, Copán is known for its fine carved stelae.

A view of the ball court at Copán.

Mark and our guide for the day climbing ruins.

We also toured some of the tunnels archeologists have dug to explore earlier temples buried by
later Mayan construction.

These little 3-wheeled taxis are everywhere in Central America.  They are called tuk-tuks, and are
made in Thailand.

Day 27

Mark flew out of San Pedro Sula, and Randal flew in just a little later.  We went outside to
find David's rear tire flat from a nail, so Randal's introduction to the trip was a tire repair.

Despite the late start, we ended the day at a microbrewery (!) and inn on the shores of Lago de Yojoa.

Day 28

Randal on a bridge leading to a nature path near the lake shore.

A view of the wetlands and the lake in the distance.

The path had a nice walkway over the wetlands (a.k.a. swamp).

The lake in the distance.

We stopped for the night day in the colonial city of Comayagua.  The clock in the center of the bell
tower was built by Spanish Moors in the 12th century, and is one of the oldest clocks in the world.

Day 29

Ready to leave for the day (from the hotel parking area).

Lunch in Valle de Angeles, a charming old town in the pine-covered mountains north of Tegucigalpa.

On the road in the mountains.
